Student Training
We are the ONLY drop zone in Montana that will give you a FULL MINUTE of freefall on every jump! We fly our twin-engine Piper Navajo to 17,500 MSL to give you a 13,000 ft skydive. Maximizing freefall time is extremely impactful when learning to skydive. Get more working time on each jump when you train with us!
We strongly believe that students are the future of this sport, and take pride in our student program. As such, we dedicate more time and energy with each student so that everyone who graduates our program is a well-trained, competent skydiver. That’s why we give you maximum working time on every jump, so you have more time to practice your maneuvers. And you won’t have to wait around for 4 hours to get on a load with us. Our plane can take 8 jumpers to altitude in 15 minutes, and we always have slots for students. So you can do more jumps per day, progress faster, and become a better licensed skydiver.
Our Accelerated Tandem Progression (ATP) is a training program developed by the United States Parachute Association. The program defines 8 categories of proficiency. In each level you will learn different skills necessary to become a fully licensed skydiver. You must demonstrate proficiency at each level to move on. This program requires 3 tandem jumps before your first solo jump.
Tandem Jump 1: Intro to freefall. Not required if you have completed a tandem at another facility within the last 6 months.
Ground School: A 4-6 hour ground course includes instruction about the gear you will use,
aircraft and exit procedures, freefall body position and altitude awareness, canopy control and landing techniques, as well as emergency procedure training. This must be completed before your second tandem jump.
Tandem Progression Jumps (Category A&B): After ground school, you will make two training tandem skydives. This will prepare you for your first solo jump. You will wear an altimeter and deploy the parachute for you and your instructor at the proper altitude. You will learn about the proper body position, canopy flight, and landing pattern.
(Accelerated Freefall) AFF Jumps:
- Category A: This is your first assisted solo jump. You exit the aircraft with the instructor holding your harness. They ensure stability while giving you objectives to complete. The main focuses are altitude awareness and a stable body position.
- Category B: This jump will introduce forward movement and turning, while still being stabilized by your instructor.
- Category C: (2 jumps) Release dive! The instructor releases you to demonstrate stable freefall and heading maintenance.
- Category D: (2 jumps): Exiting with an instructor, practice solo turns and forward movement.
- Category E: (2 jumps): First Solo Exit (unassisted by instructor). Practice stability recovery and tracking.
- Category F-H: These jumps are for working on your USPA A-license proficiency card. You jump with a coach who observes and guides your progress.
To receive your USPA A-license you must have the following:
- Have 25 or more jumps
- Complete all items on A-license proficiency card
- Complete a parachute packing class
- Pass a packing test
- Complete an A-license check-out dive
Currency Requirement: Maximum of 30 days between jumps. If there is a longer break, you will have to repeat the prior jump.
